Local Office Achievements

Junior Achievement of Central Illinois has been named a recipient of the 2009 MetLife Foundation Entrepreneurial Award. Since 2001, the award has recognized JA operations that demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and innovation in achieving sustainable results for JA's primary stakeholders - students, schools, volunteers, and donors. Each winner receives a cash award of $25,000 to expand its work, and JA Worldwide shares its best practices throughout the organization. More details here.
Junior Achievement of Central Illinois received the 2008 Chairman's Community Service Award from Caterpillar Inc. More than 70 employees from Caterpillar's Global Finance & Strategic Services Division volunteered nearly 400 hours to serve as Junior Achievement Classroom Consultants for students in Peoria School District 150 and various other schools during the fall 2008 semester. Local JA President Larry Timm is the 2007 recipient of the Junior Achievement Karl Flemke Pioneer Achievement Award. The award is given to first-time Junior Achievement presidents who have demonstrated outstanding contributions and achievements to the organization. Timm was chosen from six national finalists, which came from New Mexico, Washington, Kentucky, South Carolina, and New York. The award was presented during a ceremony at the JA Worldwide Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., on July 12.
Your JA office earned the Heartland Partnership's Community Wealth Award in 2006. The award honors a non-profit that is working to create a better future in the community through collaboration, enriching life in central Illinois - making it a better place to live, work, and play.
One hundred and thirty JA offices in the United States compete for only 12 Peak Performance Team Awards given annually by JA Worldwide®. Your local JA office earned this award annually since 2006 for its outstanding student and fiscal accomplishments. To qualify for this award, an office first had to earn multiple JA Summit Awards, as well as achieving the highest combined level of student growth, increased market share and total revenue growth.
Summit Awards have been earned by your local JA office annually since 2004. The purpose of the Summit Award is to recognize boards and staffs in Junior Achievement areas that have achieved operational soundness, including financial solvency, program impact, program quality practices, and management practices.
The Phoenix Award was bestowed upon your JA office for a complete turnaround in its operations, which included student growth of 122% over a two-year period, and a return to financial solvency. The renaissance had JA of Central Illinois "rising from the ashes."
Your local JA President was chosen to participate in the Peoria Chamber's 2007 Community Leadership School. Larry was honored to work on an open house for Three Sister's Park. The event goal was 300 attenders, but over 1,000 folks gathered for the event.
JA President Larry Timm was nominated to attend "Developing Managerial Effectiveness" at Pennsylvania State University in 2006. DME broadened understanding of leadership roles, improving the ability to contribute to a JA office's performance and results.
